JUBILEE FASHION BLOG

Hip Hip Hooray!  Britain is on high alert in the style stakes this year - London 2012 and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee are huge events which are attracting worldwide attention - and here's how to get your slice of the action in patriotic eyewear.

Although Hugo Boss is a German fashion powerhouse, they have taken a look westwards for their 2012 range.  Bold colours and big designs in the colours of the union jack are the way to go this summer.  These pieces from Boss Orange ooze quality, with many having durable spring hinges, and all being hand made in acetate.  Because of their size they are very versatile, being equally good as bifocal, varifocal or single vision - and they would look even better with a tint!  We are currently offering 20% off your second pair of spectacles or sunglasses, which means these could be an affordable pair of chic designer sunglasses.

For something more discreet, this Gucci frame is perfect.  With the strong stainless steel components, iconic Gucci print and pop of colour at the sides, this pair can take you from work, to the bar, and beyond.  Because they are rimless, the size of the lenses can be tailor made for you, so it suits wearers of all types of lens.

Youpi will get your little darlings in the celebratory spirit with this inspired pair - Youpi are fabulous children's eyewear designers, with an emphasis on perfect comfort and fit for a child's growing face.

Selby & Taylor are proud to be British, and we are joining in the celebrations in Chatteris with a fabulous window display from the 25th May.  We are also giving away novelty union jack sunglasses - with added UV protection for safe fun in the sun.

Spring has officially sprung!  Forgetting about the flurry of snow, spring is definitely here.  Here is a look at the newest trends for this fresh, sunny season.

Colour wise, warm colours are hot, hot, hot!  Anything from sand to sunburnt, honey to hazel are in - think carnival reds, burnt orange and mellow yellows, but also understated pale rose, sandstone and muted gold.  Pinks, purples and inky blue are also on the radar - colours that will liven up faded winter skin before the sun beats down on us to give us a natural bronzed effect.  Don't be afraid to wear a little colour on the face - if you do not feel comfortable with full on colour, go for decorative arms or a half rim - a little hint will make all the difference.  Men can also join in the trend - navy blue frames are a fresh change from the same old blacks and browns, and the sharp styles suit men of all ages.  For top designers for gents, look no further then Hugo Boss and Emporio Armani for timeless, stylish frames that will last.

Tribal and aztec prints are making the rounds for the second year running, and designers have really picked up on this.  For fail-safe fashion, animal prints never go out of fashion. Striking prints on the side of spectacles really make an impact, and show your personality to the world.  Adventurous designs are fun for single vision wearers - bright, affordable reading glasses are a great fashion statement, which can be switched up according to your mood.  Our fab new fashion range offers complete single vision glasses from £59 per pair, with generous discount for multiple purchases.  If you wear bifocals or varifocals, a chic, subtle print will give you flair without clashing with outfits.  See my pick of the best below.

We have chosen our new collection with playtime in mind - the specs are durable, comfortable and can withstand a bit of rough and tumble.  We still have our young designers, including GUESS, to keep mini-fashionistas looking their best.

John Rocha Male - John Rocha have continued with their winning formula - creating timeless, stylish pieces that men of any age can wear. As Autumn / Winter come around again, we tracked the biggest catwalk events to give you the most up to date fashion news.  This season, classic autumnal colours are the way to go - think golden leaves and crackling bonfire nights.  Warm reds, bronzes and browns are worn with navy and maroon hues to help you sizzle this season.  Work this style with timeless, goes-with-everything tortoishell - if you're not keen on the heavy front, we can offer rimless styles with tortoishell arms to give you the best of both worlds.  Celine Dion and Janet Reger Eyewear have bought out fabulous new collections which echo the season too, so look out for deep red frames and tones of gold and orange to heat up winter complexions.

Remember, Christmas party time will soon be upon us, so pop in to your local branch to see what we have to offer.  There are lots of frames with swarovski crystal or diamante embellishments to help you sparkle this party season.
